Inferno was EA's big attempt to get into the God of War - style action brawler market. Unfortunately, they decided to jump in just when that market started to taper out...
However, it was a very challenging project, and not just because it had some really big shoes to fill. There was a mandate for the project that it had to run at 60 FPS all the time - even during development. For a game where you can have a ton of stuff coming at you on screen, that can be tough.
In the end we had to do a lot of creative tech stuff to keep the speed up... but it did stay at 60.
There was talk initially of doing the next book in the Divine Comedy, but so-so sales meant that EA chose to pursue other projects.
